For my love....

Obviously not framed yet, but here is my most recent work.
Calvin and Hobbs for Ryan.

I think it's cute. This will be going up in his office once I can get
over to Target to pick up a frame.

Looks simple, but the cartoons can be difficult to copy because
they are so famous/well-known. Any error will be obvious...
so YES, I know there are a few - there's no need to tell me.
I already know where each one is.

My next piece?

This painting is called The Carpenter by Carl Larsson.  I love his work and I think this would be fantastic to recreate.   In honor of my husband, painting a picture with a hand plane in it would make him very happy indeed.

The Carpenter, Carl Larsson

Owl

This is what I'm currently on.

It might be done... just not sure.

It's stapled and taped to a big board waiting for me to make a decision. Although there isn't much color, there is more than you can see from this pic... I'll try and get a better one once it's done.

I really like the strong ink with the minimal color. I'm really not an "animal" person, but they do make for really great illustrations.

I'm thinking of recreating a Carl Larson water color next... The focus on color would be much greater, we'll see. I'm also working on a Calvin and Hobbs for Ryan - Embarrassingly enough, I had to ask him which one was Calvin and which one was Hobbs. He just shook his head at me.

Until next time....

Before I had kids...

So, before I had kids, I used my hands to do art - With a Knife.
I miss it terribly.  I know, or at least hope, that I will eventually get back to it.  Until then, I've been using a safer medium around the children.  I do love the ink and watercolor, but what the knife does to the wood is riskier.  The wood is forever changed.  This same exhilaration can also be very Frustrating.  One wrong move and you have to start over or change the entire piece.  I also love repetitive work, patterns.  The whole process is a great form of meditation.   You have to be calm, or it just will not work.

I think my mother inlaw has this one

I'm taking a class through The Art Academy in St. Paul.
I am Loving the ink and water color combination.
Especially old illustrations.

The girl in the top picture was my first - pretty basic,
I don't know the original artist, but isn't she adorable?

The Rabbit is from Guess How much I Love You by
Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jaram.

I plan to frame this, and put it up in the boys room.
It was one of Nico's favorite when he was younger.

The Windy woman is my favorite thus far. This style of illustration is so fun.

I'm working on an owl and a calvin and Hobbs pic for Ryan right now.

I have a Grimm's Fairy Tales pic in mind for my next ink and watercolor.
